Jul 16, 2018 – Scalp Master

Premarket Insight

Monday has returned for a week that should be jam packed with volatile action. Of course, there’s the continuation of trade wars, but the bigger highlight is the first big week of Q2 earnings week with market moves such as Bank of American (BAC), Netflix (NFLX) and Goldman Sachs, among many others, reporting this week.

Also, the Trump-Putin Summit today, Fed news on Tuesday, and China’s Q2 GDP are additional headlines that could give the market a strong push in either direction. As always, my motto is to be ready for anything.

CL got a strong start early, already down more than 70 ticks as of 07:00 EST. Even though CL got the strong start, volume across the board is pretty light.

On the calendar today, Retail Sales and Core Retail Sales at 08:30

At the Bell

Only got a small winner off CL on a continuation play after missing the first possible play that would have been a winner in the premarket. Then, out of my mind, took a play on CL right at the open at 09:30 EST that was an immediate loser. Don’t know what I was thinking about taking a play at the bell like that.

NQ mostly bouncing in the premarket and jumping long out of consolidation in the first 5 minutes of the open. Volume still weak, especially on NQ.

COB Recap

Completely off my game today. Missed all the would be target plays and only caught some scalps. Even a play around 11:30 EST that would have hit target and got me back in the green today. Took it in a paper trade with ease that quickly worked out.

Should have ended the day up more than $1,100 but best I can do at this point is take it as another learning lesson and do better next time. Having off days is just part of the game. Hoping the stars will be aligned in my favor tomorrow.

Jul 3, 2018 – Chopped to Pieces

Premarket Insight

Getting logged in, volume looking pretty decent today for it to be just a half-day. I learned to stop paying too much attention to sentiment of a slow or inactive market due to holiday weeks based off historical experiences because since I’ve started trading I’ve seen that to be proven wrong time and time again.

So far NQ and CL pushing bullish with a nice, steady grind higher. Nothing significant for me on the calendar today, as suspected. Just staying optimistic, ready to hit the button.

At the Bell

Not much happened before the bell which is fine since I was busy with other business after doing some quick studying. NQ pulling back from morning bull ride into the bell.

At the open NQ dropped hard a whole 20 points in the first 5 minutes. CL looks to be gaining momentum as well. Didn’t take a play on it today at the bell since it didn’t seem to have much energy in premarket. If it starts trending, there should be another opportunity to get in. No sweat.

COB Recap

So pretty much I traded like a broken paperclip today. Took three loses in a row on NQ bearish with only one of them being good execution. The other two were late entries due to lack of focus being too chatty in the chatroom. Also, missed some great opportunities in the first 30 minutes of the open like a dear in the headlights with the strong selloff of NQ and CL. Gots-ta do better!

I almost didn’t post this due to the frustration (and embarrassment) but decided not to be selfish. LOL

Enjoy the day off everyone. Happy 4th!

Jun 29, 2018 – Late to the Party

Premarket Insight

Last trading day of the month and others are expecting a slow market next week. However, I remember the same sentiment for the week of Thanksgiving last year, yet the market gave some of the best, easiest opportunities I’ve ever seen. So, I will stay ready.

Since last night I’ve been taking a deep look at CL and have noticed (late as usual) CL gives great opportunities every day. Officially I’ve decided to give my primary focus to playing CL, premarket and after the bell. This should allow me to grow my account to where I can play CL and NQ at the same time, fulfilling margin requirements for each. Or maybe I just trade multiple contracts on CL. But I do like trading NQ even though I have been struggling with it as of late.

Nothing significant on the calendar today. Volume looks decent across the board for my watchlist.

At the Bell

Premarket action, got one win off CL that took a while to get with the choppiness. Entry should have been sooner, but one of my indicators had me a bit hesitant. NQ has been trading in a range in the premarket. Trader sentiment from other traders is bullish predictions with eagerness to see what happens Monday based on historical events around the 4th of July.

Even though I have green lighted CL for market hours, I will stick to my rule of no trades in the first 10 minutes after the bell.

COB Recap

Feeling late to the party. Of course, CL picks today to have a ton of false breakouts that I’ve rarely seen in all my studies. Still today I was disciplined but would have been nice if that disciplined actually translated into big gains. It’s all good, it will work eventually.

One takeaway, exception to the ten-minute rule when CL is already trending. Catching that move would have changed a lot.

I actually ended the day with more wins than losses but those two false breakouts and strong volatility in a range bound day destroyed my green day. Next time… Next time.

Have a blessed weekend!
